14 Year Old Boy Cautioned For Arson in Bedworth

14-year-old boy from Nuneaton has been cautioned for arson after admitting to starting five fires in grassland around Bedworth.
The fire service was called to grassland near Moat Farm Drive four times on 8 August to put out fires that had been deliberately started.
The boy also admitted starting a fire at a nature reserve near Smorrall Lane on 11 August.
PC Stephen Croshaw from Bedworth West SNT said: “This reckless behaviour could easily have caused damage to people or property. We have seen from moorland fires in Lancashire this summer the danger posed by grassland fires.
“In this case the boy has accepted full responsibility and shown remorse for his actions. I hope he learns from this and it serves a warning to others.”
Cllr Andy Crump, Portfolio Holder for Fire and Community Safety said: “This is a great example of emergency services working together and helping to deter arsonists in Warwickshire.
“Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service (WFRS) is committed working with key partners in order to keep residents safe.”
WFRS Arson Reduction Officer Rebecca Roberts said: “Arson attacks are not a joke and can pose a serious danger to the person starting the fire as well as others, sometimes even killing. Given the dry weather we had earlier this year, this was particularly reckless act as this type of fire can escalate quickly.
“We are committed to working with our partners to put a stop to arson. Where we find that fires have been started deliberately we will work with Warwickshire Police to ensure the culprits are identified. I hope this incident serves as a warning to anyone considering doing this in the future; arson is a crime and will not be tolerated in Warwickshire.”
