Operation Highway in Rugby

Another ‘day of action’ took place as part of Operation Highway on Friday, focusing on Rugby.
The operation was launched in the county at the beginning of June, aiming to reduce vehicle crime offences through proactive and reactive policing tactics and partnership working.

Throughout the day, enhanced patrols took place by officers and dog handlers in known hotspot areas in Rugby, crime prevention workshops were delivered by Safer Neighbourhood Teams and leaflets and crime prevention packs were handed out to communities.

As a result of the operation, five arrests were made for offences including recall to prison and drink driving. Eight vehicles were also seized for offences including driving without insurance and disqualified driving.

A man in his thirties was arrested after the vehicle he was driving was stopped in Dunchurch. He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, and his vehicle was seized for no insurance and driving with a revoked licence.

Inspector Paul Speddings, who is leading on the operation, said: “We are pleased with these results and hope they demonstrate another day of activity to tackle vehicle crime within the county.

“We are working hard to prevent and disrupt further crimes, and have invested a number of resources into this operation. Further activity will continue in the coming months.”
