Fly Tipper Taken to Court

On Tuesday 21st August Mr Roeg Wadham, from Clifton Campville, attended Nuneaton Magistrates’ Court to be sentenced following a previous guilty plea in July for 5 fly tipping offences across three Local Authority areas.

The Court emphasised the seriousness of the five fly tipping offences, stating that fly-tipping was blighting the countryside and that Council’s were left with the burden of clear up costs. It was therefore important that the message is sent out that this is unacceptable behaviour and offenders need to be punished.

Mr Wadham was sentenced to 10 weeks in custody for each offence, a total of 50 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months on the condition Mr Wadham fully co-operates with the Probation Service and fulfils the requirements of a Community Order.

The Court also imposed a financial penalty of £2,684.47 reflecting partial clean up and legal costs and a Victim Surcharge of £115.00. Total £2,799.47 in addition to a Criminal Behaviour Order under section 22 of the Anti-social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 prohibiting him from engaging in waste disposal activities for 3 years and

Steve Maxey, NWBC Corporate Director for Environment said. ‘Fly tipping is one of the main problems facing North Warwickshire. The Council takes this very seriously and this prosecution comes as a result of an unprecedented investigation across a number of areas into one of the worst offenders we have experienced. North Warwickshire Borough Council is very pleased with the outcome and we are grateful to the help that members of the public give us as work continues to try to reduce the level of fly tipping on our areas.’

Members of the public had paid Mr Wadham to remove transit van loads of waste from their properties which was later discovered fly tipped within various locations in North Warwickshire, Lichfield and Tamworth.
