Warwickshire Police – Operation BARRA

Warwickshire Police are currently conducting Operation BARRA during January.  The aim is to positively change driver and rider attitudes on Warwickshire Police roads. Unfortunately last year saw an increase in fatalities, therefore, improving driver and rider standards, tackling dangerous behavior and making our roads safer is a high priority for the force. To do this we will target drivers travelling in excess of the posted speed limits. Excess speed along with contributory factors cause fatal and serious RTCs. These are known as the ‘Fatal Five’. 1. Excessive speed. 2. Failing to wear seatbelts 3. Driving whilst under the influence of drink and/or drugs 4. Driving whilst using mobile phone 5. Careless and inconsiderate driving, in particular drivers/rider taking risk.
Operation BARRA will consist of high visibility static checks and positive mobile enforcement whereby we will be stopping and speaking to motorists to enforce and educate where appropriate. Our interaction with the public is key in improving driving standards and increasing road safety.
