Police Arrest Male With Dead Sheep in Vehicle

Police have arrested a 21 year old male from Rugby after an alert member of the public reported a suspicious vehicle in Rugby just after 4am on Tuesday 16 April 2019.

Police arrived and discovered a dead sheep in the back of the car. Officers are in contact with DEFRA to establish who the sheep belongs to.

The man was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty, driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, possession of an offensive weapon, and assault on police.

He was also arrested on suspicion of a burglary non dwelling following a suspicious incident in Harborough Magna overnight 15/16 April.

The vehicle and sheep were recovered for further examination.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for any witnesses who saw a suspicious vehicle in the Harborough Magna area overnight 15/16 April to please contact them on 101 asking for PS Craig Griffiths on ext 3886. UPDATE: Following questioning, the 21 year old male was released under investigation late on 16 April, pending further enquiries.
