Three Men Sentenced For Fuel Thefts

Three men have been sentenced for three fuel thefts at the weekend following some great partnership working with Northamptonshire Police.
Patrick Ward, aged 31 and Jonathon Ward, aged 24, both of Slapton Road, Leighton Buzzard, and a 30-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons, all appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court on Monday 30th March.
On Saturday (28th March), fuel thefts were reported from Binley Woods and Rugby to the value of more than £260.
At around 5.30pm on the same day, a vehicle was stopped on the A508 by Northamptonshire Police.
The van was discovered to have been stolen from Lancashire and one of the men was wanted for an offence elsewhere in the country.
All three men were subsequently arrested, charged, and later appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court where they pleaded guilty.
Patrick Ward was given a three month prison sentence and made to pay £259.33 in fines for the fuel thefts. He was also given a £100 fine and one day custodial sentence for being in breach of the coronavirus lockdown.

A 30-year-old man was given a three month prison sentence and made to pay £104.23 for the fuel theft offences, plus a one month sentence and £122 fine for theft, with an additional £100 fine and one day sentence for being in breach of the coronavirus lockdown. He was also sent to court for a further warrant.
Following the sentencing, Sergeant Rachel Fisher said: “In the middle of a public health emergency, these three decided to try their chances in stealing fuel when they should have been in their homes like everyone else. Thanks to the quick work of our officers and our bordering forces, thankfully all three were located, arrested and have now been convicted for their actions.
“I hope this shows that even in our current climate, we are still working hard to prevent crime and bring offenders to justice.”
