Cyber Crime Alert re Sextortion
As people continue to spend more time online, cyber criminals are exploiting the CoVID-19 pandemic by engaging with people virtually, encouraging them to share intimate photos or perform sexual acts and then threatening to publish or share any photos or video footage unless the victim pays a sum of money or purchases high value items such as gift cards.
This type of scam is known as a form of ‘sextortion’ and is designed to play on people’s emotions and pressure them into paying.
