Stolen Saddle Recovered

Following a recent warrant executed by the Warwickshire Police Rural Crime Team, partner agencies and neighbouring forces (lots more details to follow on this soon!), they located and seized a saddle believed to be stolen.
After an appeal was posted on our Warwickshire Horse Watch FB page and shared by lots of you, a person was identified and it was the teams pleasure to reunite it with its rightful owner.
Thank you to everyone who shared and contacted us with information, we love a happy ending.
This was possible due to the saddle having identified markings and the tag on it.
There are a number of things that you can do to help protect your tack and improve the chances of getting it back if taken:
– If leather stamp your postcode and number or house name on the saddle flap and consider forensic solutions such as Smartwater, Selecta DNA, etc
– Synthetic – visually mark and/or consider forensic as above
– Put a tag on your saddle with your contact information, this can also help if your horse ever got loose when tacked up
– Consider having a microchip in your saddle and register to your address
– If you have tack with a serial number on it record and keep in a safe place.
– Take photos of your tack and main details such as make, model, colour , size and any differentiating marks.
– Go to www.warwickshireruralwatch.co.uk, Advice Section, Record Forms and download the Equine Form, this is something that you can record all of your details on and keep safe just in case you need it, can be done either hard copy or filed on your computer. Have fun and make it a yard day taking pictures and filling the form in helping each other!
The above can also be done for carriage harness too.
– Put up Warwickshire Horse Watch signs showing you are linked in to a police supported scheme and ‘Property is Marked’ signs if you have tack etc marked.
– Tack marking kits can be borrowed via Warwickshire Horse Watch
