Fire Advice for Farmers

Following a number of fires around the county and the concern regarding the very dry and hot conditions, Warwickhsire Police and Warwickshire Fire Service would like to reiterate the advice for taking fire precautions on farms and agricultural land.

Please take the time to read this advice leaflet: Farm Fire Safety Leaflet v3_compressed (please print off and give to everyone on the farm, including contractors etc.

Remember – FIELD:

Fires in fields can be prevented.  Remember to consider weather conditions (including wind strength and direction), water supplies and fire breaks.

Incident location – it is essential that the fire service know how to find the location where the fire is and get there as soon as possible.  Ensure you have clear signage, be ready to guide the fire service from the road and have on your mobile phone the free ‘Whats3Words’ app that will give the precise location, identified by 3 words – all emergency services recognise and can use this way of finding a location.

Extra resources – having a slurry tank of water and chain harrow to hand can make all the difference.

Leave it to the fire service – don’t try to tackle the fire yourself.  Get out, stay out and call 999.

Don’t take risks – ensure that you have an escape plan in place and know how to protect your livestock and machinery.
