Operation Recall – Raising Awareness of Livestock Worrying
As we approach the Easter weekend and the weather begins to improve livestock and horse owners, the police and partner agencies, such as the NFU, CLA, National Sheep Association, etc, nationally, are working together to raise the awareness of people being responsible dog owners and keeping their dogs on a lead when near livestock.
Sadly forces around the country, including Warwickshire receive reports every year of livestock being attacked by dogs resulting in distress, injury and death to a variety of animals. The highest number of reports received relates to sheep, but also includes cattle, horses, donkeys, alpacas and llamas.
We are presently in lambing season with both pregnant ewes and new born lambs with their mothers in the fields. Last year Warwickshire had reports of both being attacked by dogs from dogs not being on a lead and getting away from their owners or person walking them and escaping from their properties with devastating results.
Please keep your dog on a lead or in a secure area if left outside.
It is also very important to take pick up after your dog and put in a bin or take it home.
