In September 2018, a burglary took place at a property in Arley. A bank card stolen from the address was then used at a cash point, where the suspect was subsequently identified as James Harvey. He was arrested and charged for handling stolen goods and fraud.

At around 9.30pm on 10 March 2019, Harvey broke into a house on Meadow Croft, Arley. The occupant was at home watching television when he entered through a bedroom window using a crow bar. He searched through drawers in the bedroom, before being disturbed by the homeowner.

Later that night, Harvey entered a property on Daffern Avenue. He stole an air rifle, medication and watch.

At 12.10am the following day, Harvey was observed looking into other premises. Officers then witnessed him driving a motor vehicle and leaving the area. He was followed and ran from police in Rowland Court, Arley, but was subsequently located by a police helicopter and dog unit.

Items found discarded were linked to Harvey by DNA, and inside the vehicle was the stolen property from Daffern Avenue. CCTV then later linked him to the Meadow Croft burglary.

He pleaded guilty at the beginning of yesterday’s trial to burglary dwelling, handling stolen goods, possession of a firearm when prohibited, driving without insurance or a licence and fraud.

He was sentenced to five years imprisonment.

Following the sentencing, PC Rav Gill from Nuneaton Offender Management Unit said: “I hope this result demonstrates that we take domestic burglaries and the associated offences very seriously, and we will always work to bring those responsible before the courts.”
