Dogs and Vehicle Seized in South Warwickshire

On Sunday, PC King from the Rural Crime Team and colleagues from Patrol, responded to a call of two males suspected to be hare coursing on land near to Alcester, South Warwickshire.
When Officers arrived, a vehicle was spotted parked in a lay-by believed to be involved and shortly afterwards, males could be seen on land with three dogs. The males quickly spotted us and began walking over before claiming they were merely walking their dogs on public footpaths.
The two males were very well known to the Rural Crime Team and both had extensive history and recent intelligence linking them to hare coursing in Warwickshire.
After further background work, and speaking to the caller, using powers under the Poaching Prevention Act 1862, the officers seized all three lurcher type dogs as well as the vehicle they arrived in.  The dogs were all very friendly and were taken to secure kennels where they are being looked after.
We take calls for poaching and coursing very seriously, with our force now part of Operation Gallileo nd will use all powers at our disposal to send a strong message to anyone who thinks that they can come to Warwickshire and take part in this so called sport.  So please, if you suspect anyone to be committing this offence, please call and report it immediately.
